Normandy celebrates the anniversary of the D-Day landings

Normandy forever keeps the traces of this war and, each year, remembers and pays tribute to American, British, Canadian, Belgian, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Australian, French veterans and their brothers in arms, to these heroes who, many, lost their lives here throughout the summer of 1944.

In 2024, Normandy commemorated and celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Landings and the Battle of Normandy.

Every year around June 6, this anniversary which is so important to commemorate, gives rise to numerous events. If the major international ceremonies take place every 5 years, festivities and celebrations take place every year

The international ceremony on June 6, takes place in D Day beaches in Calvados,  where 2,500 American soldiers lost their lives. This ceremony will be an opportunity to commemorate the anniversary of the Landings and the Battle of Normandy in the presence of numerous heads of state and representatives of the belligerent nations.

FESTIVITIES ON THE PROGRAM FOR THE ANNIVERSARY

Burning of the coast (synchronized fireworks) at the major D-Day sites, giant picnic on Omaha Beach, Liberation balls, international parachuting of several hundred soldiers above Sainte-Mère- Church, etc. The festivities will be in full swing throughout the year and especially around June 6. A great way to join in this spirit of fraternity.

INTERNATIONAL COMMEMORATIVE CEREMONIES OF THE LANDINGS (RESERVED FOR OFFICIALS)

Official ceremonies and festivities will be on the program to honor the memory of those who landed on the Normandy coast and who participated in the Battle of Normandy in 1944.

Alongside the last veterans, presidents and ministers from around the world are always there. Thus in the past, Queen Elizabeth II (who attended 4 commemorations of the D-Day landings in the space of 30 years), Barack Obama (in 2014) and many others have paid vibrant tribute to the soldiers and civilians who fought for peace during World War II.

The D-Day Festival Normandy will take place from June 1 to June 16,

The  anniversary of the Normandy landings offers much more than a simple commemoration. It is an opportunity to reflect, pay homage and celebrate the spirit of sacrifice and determination that has helped shape the modern world.
